Saudi Arabia is the birthplace of Islam and the custodian of its two holiest sites — Mecca and Medina — which together draw over two million pilgrims annually for the Hajj. The Arabian Peninsula was largely tribal and polytheistic when Muhammad began his prophetic ministry in Mecca around 610 AD; within a century of his death, the Islamic empire stretched from Spain to Central Asia. The modern kingdom was forged in the early 20th century by Ibn Saud through a series of military campaigns, sealed by a theological alliance with the Wahhabi Islamic reform movement that continues to shape Saudi religious life today. The discovery of oil in 1938 made Saudi Arabia extraordinarily wealthy and globally influential. The kingdom funds mosques, madrassas, and Islamic institutions across the world, making its theological export one of the most significant forces in global Islam. Saudi Arabia has no churches, no public Christian worship, and no legal pathway for a Saudi national to follow Christ.

People live in Saudi Arabia today in the most symbolically closed country on earth for the gospel — the land that gave the world Islam, where the Quran was revealed, where the Prophet is buried, where conversion is apostasy and apostasy carries the death penalty. A significant portion of the population are expatriate workers who include Christians, but Saudi nationals themselves are among the most comprehensively sealed from the gospel of any people on earth. Yet God is sovereign over Mecca and Medina as He is over every place, and there are growing quiet testimonies of Saudis coming to faith — mostly through satellite television, online ministry, and unexplained dreams.

The Center of Islam's World
Every year, millions of Muslims from over 180 countries travel to Mecca to circle the Kaaba — praying, weeping, seeking God with everything they have. Pray for these pilgrims, who carry their longings from every nation and bring them home again. Ask God to meet each one not merely with ritual, but with the living Christ who alone can answer the deepest prayer. Ask for seeds planted in the heart of Islam's holiest city to take root in every country the pilgrims return to. "The Most High does not live in houses made by human hands." (Acts 7:48)
The Prophet's City
Medina, the city of Muhammad, is Islam's second holiest site — where the first Muslim community was established and where pilgrims come to stand at the Prophet's tomb. It is a city saturated with Islamic devotion, longing, and theology. Pray for God to move in Medina — for Saudi scholars, imams, and ordinary citizens to encounter the Jesus of the Injil (Gospel), and for the longing that drives pilgrims to a tomb to be redirected to the only One who did not stay in His. "I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die." (John 11:25)
A Vision at the Heart of Islam
No missionary may legally enter Mecca. No Saudi may openly follow Jesus. Yet during Hajj, millions sleep within earshot of the Kaaba — and God is not bound by Saudi law. There are growing testimonies of Saudis coming to faith through vivid, recurring dreams — the figure in white, the voice that calls by name, the peace that has no earthly explanation. Pray for Jesus to appear in the dreams of pilgrims from 180 nations gathered at the world's most spiritually contested address. What if revival began in the most forbidden place on earth?
