Tajikistan
Tajikistan is a mountainous Central Asian nation with deep Persian cultural roots. Once part of the ancient Silk Road and later absorbed into the Soviet Union, it gained independence in 1991. Despite high literacy, it remains one of the poorest countries in the region, with Islam deeply woven into daily life.

People live in Tajikistan, Central Asia's poorest nation, where many families survive on remittances sent home by men working abroad in Russia. Islam is woven into every aspect of daily life, and the government tightly controls all religious activity — registering churches, censoring materials, and monitoring believers. Evangelical Christians make up barely 0.1% of the population, and most Tajiks have never met a follower of Jesus.

Open Doors
Tajikistan requires all religious groups to register with the state, and registration is routinely denied to evangelical congregations. Churches that meet without registration face raids, fines, and forced closures. Pastors have been imprisoned; foreign Christian workers expelled. All religious materials must pass a government censorship committee. In this environment, conventional mission strategies are nearly impossible. Pray for creative workers who can serve humbly, build relationships over years, and live in a way that raises questions only the gospel can answer. Ask God to open doors no government decree can close. "See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut." (Revelation 3:8)
Tajik Believers
Tajikistan's evangelical church numbers perhaps 0.1% of the population — a few thousand believers scattered among ten million people, often isolated from one another and living under constant scrutiny. Many have lost jobs, family relationships, and social standing for following Christ. Thousands of Tajik men working in Russia encounter believers there and return home as secret Christians with no church and no discipleship. Pray for these isolated believers to be found and connected. Ask for mature leaders, translated discipleship resources, and community strong enough to sustain faith under sustained pressure. "The Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline." (2 Timothy 1:7)
Youth and Families
More than half of Tajikistan's population is under 25 — young people inheriting high unemployment and a government that offers Islam as their only spiritual option. Many leave for Russia seeking work, where some encounter the gospel for the first time. Pray for Tajik youth wherever they are — in Dushanbe, in Moscow, in the Gulf. Ask God to plant a hunger for truth that outpaces everything the state can control, and to visit young Tajiks in dreams and night visions, calling them by name toward the One who made them. "I will give you hidden treasures, riches stored in secret places, so that you may know that I am the LORD, who summons you by name." (Isaiah 45:3)
